Empower the Next Generation with Your Team

At Junior Achievement, volunteer groups with corporate businesses and community organizations are a critical component in providing young people with experiences that empower them to own their future success. When companies invest their time and resources towards positive social impact through JA, they demonstrate a commitment to ensuring economic success for young people and thriving local communities.

Why Volunteer with JA?

  • Make a Difference: Inspire and educate students to achieve their potential.
  • Team Building: Research shows that employees want to work for socially responsible companies. Create opportunities for teams to engage in meaningful work outside of their normal workday.
  • Community Engagement: Show your commitment to the local community.
  • Turn-Key Experience: We provide all materials, training, and school coordination.
  • Range of Opportunities: From a JA Finance Park session to taking over an entire school for a JA Day, we have options to fit your team’s needs.
  • Reach your impact goals: We will work with you to provide an experience that fulfills your needs.

How It Works

Complete the Volunteer Inquiry Form, and a member of our team will schedule a time to discuss your volunteer goals, time commitment, and the options we have available that fit your schedule.

Once a program type, date, and location are agreed upon, we will schedule a group training (virtual or in-person) to prepare everyone for teaching success.

We will coordinate the drop-off of all course materials (if applicable) for review and preparation ahead of the volunteer day.

Show up and have fun! Our staff will be on site to support your team’s needs.

*We encourage participation in our group volunteer activities through a financial contribution that helps support our programs.

Opportunities for Groups:
  • JA Classroom Volunteering: JA classroom volunteers lead JA-developed lesson plans that teach financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship in K-12 classrooms throughout Southern California. After being matched to a classroom and attending training, you will deliver engaging, easy-to-follow lessons infused with your unique experiences.
  • JA Finance Park Volunteering: Your group will spend the day in JA Finance Park® helping a small group of students create a personal financial plan.
  • JA Career Speaker Series: Help students discover new careers and career paths by participating in a JA-hosted school event. Volunteers talk to students about their careers and the journey to get there.
  • JA Job Shadow: Perfect for corporate engagement, a JA Job Shadow allows employees to engage with students who visit your place of business to learn about the company.
  • Special Events: Volunteers help facilitate one of JASoCal’s annual special events such as our Annual Golf Classic, JA Inspire, Stock Market Challenge, and other program events.
What is the typical time commitment?

Volunteering with JA is designed to be flexible and manageable. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Mandatory Training: 1 hour.
Conducted by JA staff, either individually or in a group, at a convenient time and location for the volunteer.
  • Classroom Experiences: 5-6 hours + 2 hours to review and prep learning materials in advance
Volunteers can expect to spend a day in the classroom for most JA In a Day programs. This format can also be taught for 1 hour a week for multiple weeks.
  • JA Finance Park Experiences: 6 hours.
Volunteers will be trained on site before student arrival and there are no materials to prepare in advance.
