Meet Our New Board Chair: Monique Johnson!

Junior Achievement of Southern California is excited to announce the appointment of Monique Johnson as our new Board Chair, effective July 1, 2023. Monique brings with her nearly forty years of experience as an executive banker, currently serving as the Senior Vice President and Director of Client & Community Partnerships at Beneficial State Bank.

Monique’s journey with Junior Achievement of Southern California began in 1996, when she first joined us as a volunteer. Over the years, she has played a crucial role in various capacities, including managing the prestigious JASoCal Golf Classic and coordinating several corporate and peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives. In 2013, she joined the Board, actively participating in different committees, and even served as the past Chair of the Education Committee.

Our President & CEO, Dr. Les McCabe, couldn’t be happier with Monique’s appointment: “We are delighted to welcome Monique Johnson as our new Board Chair. Her extensive experience and hands-on involvement with the organization, coupled with her dedication to financial wellness in our community, will be instrumental in advancing our mission. With Monique at the helm, we are confident in achieving even greater milestones and positively shaping the future of the communities we serve. I look forward to working alongside her.”

In her role as Board Chair, Monique will provide strategic guidance and vision to further our outreach, educational, and fundraising initiatives throughout Southern California. This region includes Orange County, Inland Empire, Riverside County, Bakersfield, Kern County, and Tulare County. Monique’s exceptional leadership skills and vast experience in the financial sector will undoubtedly contribute significantly to our continued success in empowering young people with the essential skills they need to thrive in today’s ever-changing economic landscape.

When asked about her appointment, Monique shared her excitement: “I’m thrilled and proud of the opportunity to lead the Board over these next two fiscal years. The diversity and inclusion of the more than 60 Board Members are remarkable to see. We’re active members that care about the programs offered, impact on the students, and are supportive of every inspiring staff member that makes it all happen.”

Monique’s appointment comes at a crucial time when financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurial skills are more significant than ever for the health of our local economy. With her leadership and guidance, Junior Achievement of Southern California is poised to expand its reach and impact, ensuring equitable access to educational experiences that provide the knowledge and confidence for young people to make informed financial decisions and pursue successful careers.

Let’s extend a warm and enthusiastic welcome to Monique Johnson. Together, we will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young individuals, empowering them to create a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
